The Position

A unique opportunity for a suitably qualified individual to gain a prestigious Office of the Chief Executive (OCE) Postdoctoral Fellowship with CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research (CMAR).  The Postdoctoral Fellow will work on a research project in the area analysing and modelling the interdependence of the biophysical, economic and social aspects of land use and its response to the drivers of global change.

Specifically you will:

  • Lead, with the assistance of other team members, the design and development of a land use/land cover change (LULCC) component for CSIRO’s Integrated Assessment Models and its use to tackle leading-edge research questions.
  • Further the engagement of CSIRO’s Integrated Assessment modelling activities with other CSIRO, Australian and international research activities.
  • Work with the members of the Complex Systems Science Team to develop innovative approaches to modelling LULCC.
  • Produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles, conference papers and presentations and technical reports.
  • Regularly review relevant literature.
  • Contribute to the effective functioning of the research team and help deliver CSIRO’s organisational objectives.
  • Adhere to CSIRO requirements for information security, OHS & E and EEO in accordance with theCSIRO Code of Conduct.
  • Participate in CSIRO’s postdoctoral training program.

 Location: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

Salary: $81K – $88K pa plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will have:

  • A PhD, or will shortly satisfy the requirements for a PhD degree, in a relevant scientific discipline. Owing to the terms of CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowships, you must not have more than 3 years relevant postdoctoral experience.
  • Research experience in a topic relevant to land use and land cover modelling from an Earth system, economic and/or social science perspective.
  • Demonstrated strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated originality, creativity and innovation in solving problems and introducing new directions and approaches.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of people from varying research backgrounds and evidence of strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to publish the results of scientific research in scientific journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under minimal supervision while contributing to overall team performance and proven ability to meet performance deadlines during the course of the project.
