Professor of Wood Material Science

fixed-term, 5 years,  Joensuu campus

The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) is one of the largest universities in Finland. The UEF is a multidisciplinary university, which offers teaching in more than 100 major subjects. The university has approximately 15,000 students and some 2,800 members of staff, and the university’s campuses are located in Joensuu, Kuopio and Savonlinna.

Salary: The salary of the post is based between levels 8 and 10 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff in the Finnish universities’ salary system (€ 4 597.75 – 5 865.99 euros/month + personal performance component).

The field of research and teaching of the professorship is wood material science. The field of teaching comprises the development of new potential ways of exploiting wood, the characterisation of wood material properties, and the testing of novel ways of using wood from the viewpoints of commercial exploitability and innovation processes. The field of research of the professor is required to be linked to at least one of the fields of teaching. The professor is responsible for leading and developing research and education in the field of the professorship, including doctoral education. The person to be appointed to the professorship must have excellent abilities in applying for external funding and he or she is expected to engage in active national and international collaboration in the field of the professorship.

The teaching duties specifically pertain to the Master’s degree programme in Wood Material Science.

The professorship is hosted by the School of Forest Sciences at the Faculty of Science and Forestry of the University of Eastern Finland (Joensuu Campus). The professorship will be filled for a fixed term of five (5) years as from 1 January 2014.

According to the Administrative Regulations of the University of Eastern Finland, a person to be appointed to a permanent professorship or to a professorship of over a two-year term shall be scientifically or artistically qualified, have good teaching skills and, if important for attending to the duties, practical familiarity with the field of the post.
