PHD position
At the Bioclimatology group of the Georg August University, Göttingen
The successful candidate will join a project on the micrometeorology and biogeochemistry of agro-forestry systems in Germany. For this position, she/he will do research on evaporation, transpiration and wind field of agroforestry systems using micrometeorological measurements and modeling. The position should be filled as soon as possible and is offered under a fixed term contract termi-nating on June 30, 2018. The position and salary correspond to 50% (19.9 h) of a German public service TVL 13 Position.
What you will do:
The project aims to quantify evaporation, transpiration, radiation fluxes and the 3D wind field of agroforestry systems, and to compare them with conventional agricultural crops to produce guidelines for sustainable production oriented management. As a PhD candidate, your tasks will include testing, installing and operating micrometeorological instruments; measuring wind, radiation, turbulent energy fluxes (with eddy covariance) and other meteorological and physiological parameters; applying and developing models of computational fluid dynamics and evapotranspiration; analyzing and interpreting scientific data; data quality assessment and database management; presenting results nationally and internationally, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications you should have:
– A M.Sc. degree in meteorology, environmental sciences, geo-ecology, biology, physics, geo-graphy or similar (required).
– Experience with micrometeorological measurements and modeling (preferred).
– Experience with data analysis in R, C or other relevant programming languages (preferred)
– Skills and interest in working scientifically and quantitatively, including modeling (required)
– Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork across Germany (required)
– Proficiency in English (required); German is an advantage.
The position is based in Göttingen, Germany while fieldwork will be carried out across Germany.
