Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the area of Ecosystem Ecology and Biogeochemistry

The Terrestrial Ecosystems Ecology Laboratory at the University of Montana (http://www.cfc.umt.edu/research/biogeochemistry/) invites applications for Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of Ecosystem Ecology and Biogeochemistry. We are especially interested in applicants who have experience using both experimental and synthetic (modeling) approaches to address important ecological questions. The successful candidate will help develop and lead a new, 5-year, National Science Foundation (NSF) funded Research Coordination Network (RCN) project titled, INCyTE: Investigating Nutrient Cycling in Terrestrial Ecosystems: Integrating Observations, Experiements, and Models (http://www.cfc.umt.edu/research/incyte/). 

The goal of INCyTE is to bring together communities of scientists that historically have not interacted closely: biogeochemical experimentalists and earth system modelers. The overarching goals of INCyTE are to enhance our understanding of nutrient cycling feedbacks on the global carbon (C) cycle in general, and to integrate different investigators, data, and experimental and conceptual frameworks to improve representation of nutrient interactions and constraints on the global terrestrial C cycle in Earth System Models. The postdoc will help coordinate the science, interact with participants at meetings and take a lead role in pushing the various synthesis ideas and efforts that emerge during the project. In addition, the candidate will be encouraged to engage in ongoing experimental research projects in the lab. Currently, work focuses on understanding nutrient dynamics, nutrient limitation, and nutrient plant nutrient acquisition in temperate and tropical forest ecosystems.
