Professor of cold region geochemistry

Position available at the Center for Permafrost (CENPERM), Section for Geography, Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen.The CENPERM is a center of excellence funded by the Danish National Research Foundation (Danmarks Grundforskningsfond). The center is headed by Prof. Bo Elberling and is a multidisciplinary center including scientists from Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen and the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS).

We seek a highly motivated candidate with documented international recognized research experience within the research the field of CENPERM, specifically in geochemistry using analytical geochemistry, stable or radioisotopes, landscape up scaling, and/or mathematical modeling as tools. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong, independent research profile, to write competitive grant proposals, to participate in the teaching of graduate courses and to supervise master and PhD projects at Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, University of Copenhagen.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Physical Geography or Earth/Biological Environmental Sciences with a strong background in environmental geochemistry and documented research in soil-microbial-plant interactions, preferable linked to greenhouse gas production/transport, and experience in undertaking fieldwork.

Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required in order to obtain a permanent position.

Duties include the applicant´s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

The position is open from October 1, 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter.
