The research unit Forest Resources and Forest Management is engaged in monitoring, analysis and prognosis of forest resources in Switzerland. For the Horizon 2020 research project Distributed, Integrated and Harmonised Forest Information for Bioeconomy Outlooks (DIABOLO) we are seeking a PostDoc in Forest Inventory Statistics.
You develop the statistical methodology for a common data analysis and output delivery system providing harmonised information on forest resources in Europe incorporating national forest inventory field data sources. You optimise imputation and updating techniques to enable the system to deliver always up-to-date information on state of forest resources in Europe. Your work includes the development of estimators, as well as the technical implementation and case studies in cooperation with participating countries. You publish your work in scientific journals and in project progress reports.
You completed your PhD in forestry, environmental sciences, geography, geomatics, mathematics or similar and dispose of relevant expertise in sampling statistics and programming. You are experienced in working with databases and spatial data, including data acquired through remote sensing. You are used to work self-reliant, accurate and goal-oriented. You interact with ease in an international team. You are well grounded in English and preferably also in one of the national languages.
