Associate Professor in physical geography/ecosystem modelling
A position as associate professor within the field of climatology is vacant within the “Terrestrial Ecosystem Analysis” research group at Department of Geosciences and Natural resource management. The group works primarily on quantification of cycles of water, carbon and nutrients in terrestrial ecosystems and exchange processes between atmosphere, vegetation and soil. Our current research projects are focused on dynamic processes in both natural and anthropogenic systems. The Arctic perspective is currently our main focus but research has been undertaken from tropical, Danish, Arctic to Antarctic systems over the last decade.
The successful candidate is expected to have a strong academic record with research and teaching competences covering the topics of scaling of fluxes of water, carbon and energy from observational data at plot scale to region using ecosystem modelling and/or down scaling from satellite or grid data. Research capacity to work across different geographical latitudes and link surface process understanding to various other disciplines within the Geography section is considered an asset.

- Have an international research-profile within physical geography and ecosystem modelling with a relevant background in physical geography, biogeography or earth observation or ecology, documented by a strong publication record.
- Attract independent and internationally competitive research programs within the research field of physical geography and ecosystem modelling.
- Have experience in leading/participating in externally funded research programs involving multiple partners and extensive field work in remote areas.
- Good communication skills and teaching experience within the fields of basic physical geography (surface water/energy cycle and basic surface climatology)/ecosystem modelling and include teaching at both BSc- and MSc-level, as well as supervision of the thesis work of MSc- and PhD-students.
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required in order to obtain a permanent position.
Duties include the applicant´s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.
The position is open from 1. August 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. The deadline for applications is the 2 February 2014. Interviews/trial lectures will be held on the 22. April 2014.
