Ecology Data Assistant in UK

Due to continued success, we are looking to recruit a highly motivated Ecology Data Assistant into our office in Falkirk on a 12 month fixed term basis (moving to Stirling Jan 2014). Our Ecology & Hydrology department is made up of a diverse range of ecologists and hydrologists with considerable technical experience and expertise built up from having worked on renewable energy projects for over twelve years.
Reporting into the Ecological Modeller you will primarily be responsible for providing data entry and data management services to clients within the wind (onshore and offshore) and wave/tidal industries. A selection of duties and responsibilities include:
- Data entry of field data into spreadsheets;
- Visualisation, presentation and processing of ecological data using ArcGIS;
- Quality Assurance of data entry and GIS work carried out by other members of the team;
- Provision of advice on data management;
- Provision of regular progress reports for projects and team management, as required.
Knowledge and Experience
Ideally you will be degree qualified in a biological, environmental or ecological discipline, however this is not necessary. Further to academic qualifications, you will have relevant experience in a similar role, fulfilling comparable duties and responsibilities as outlined above. It is essential that you have experience of working with large datasets; ideally experience will have been gained from within an Environmental field.
You must be a proficient user of I.T., and in particular Microsoft packages. Experience with GIS software, particularly ArcGIS, would be beneficial. Experience of an ERP or document control package would also be a distinct advantage. Due to nature of business and role, you will be expected to be flexible with your time and standard duties.

The position is based from our office in Falkirk (FK2 7EY), however will be moving to our newly refurbished office in Stirling in January 2014. The office is fifteen minutes’ walk from Stirling train station, however for those more active, there is a bike shed, store room and showers on site (why not take advantage of our bike to work scheme). Further to this, we are next to The Peak sports complex offering; gym, pool, various courts/pitches, climbing wall amongst other things (why not take advantage of our corporate membership). We have parking onsite and are in close proximity to shops, supermarkets and food outlets.
