Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes (a French post-graduate university)
The school of Life and Earth Sciences, at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes and the research unit Paleoenvironments and Chronoecology from the Centre for Bio-Archaeology and Ecology (Montpellier, France) searching for a full-time permanent, tenure-track assistant professor (« Maître de Conférences ») in the broadly defined area of forest ecology and global changes. Examples of relevant research areas include but are not limited to:

1) The disturbance ecology and forest dynamics;

2) The woody biomass and fuel built-up and, the forest productivity and biodiversity in relation with disturbances, land-use abandonment and climatic changes;

3) The tree biogeography and landscape ecology, the tree productivity, the tree dynamics, and the tree architecture in relation to global and land-use changes and to perturbation regimes.
Applicants must have:
# a PhD in ecology, forest science or a similar field area.
# an experience in dendrochronology, spatial analyses and forest ecology published in international peer-review journals.
# demonstrated the potential to establish an internationally recognized, externally funded research program.
# the ability to contribute to excellence in education at the graduate levels (Master and PhD degrees) in ecology and multidisciplinary environmental sciences is also required.

The future assistant professor will participate to the research performed in the research unit Paleoenvironments and Chronoecology composed of 5 full-time researchers (ecologists, paleoecologists, biogeographers).

Expected starting date: December 1st, 2010. Salary is commensurate with experience.
