FP1301 EuroCoppice – Call for STSMs still open
There are still some funds available for “Short Term Scientific Missions” (STSMs) on topics related to FP1301 EuroCoppice. Please send this news through your networks and encourage interested researchers to apply. The STSMs must be completed before April 15th, 2017. STSM applications should be submitted asap, since they are reviewed on a first-come-first-serve basis. The final application deadline is Feb 20th, 2017, as long as there are funds remaining at that time.

It is a pleasure to invite you to the UAV – PhD-Day on Thursday October 20th at the Free University of Bozen–Bolzano. During this side-event of the Optimise Cost Action Workshop, a selected number of PhD students will have the opportunity to present their scientific works in a dedicated framework. PhD students dealing with UAV technology and proximal sensing approaches for the ecological analysis of terrestrial ecosystems in their research projects are invited to participate. The final aim of the event is to create a network for exchange of experiences in this growing field of science.
EFIMED Week 2016 – Smart Mediterranean Forestry, Bioeconomy and Social Integration
Join us for the EFIMED Week 2016 this autumn (7-9 November) in Calabria, southern Italy. This year´s event is titled: Smart Mediterranean Forestry, bioeconomy and social integration. We’ll explore how Mediterranean forests could better contribute to the creation of livelihoods, jobs and social opportunities for rural inhabitants and migrants, while also helping address other key challenges, such as energy, water and food security, mitigation and nature conservation. Come and learn about examples of social forestry in Calabria and in other regions, meet the EFIMED Network and help us identify the critical factors for the creation of a forest-based, sustainable and equitable Mediterranean bioeconomy!

Convegno: “Pioppicoltura e arboricoltura da legno in Italia” – Casale M.to (AL), 24-25 Ott 2016
L’arboricoltura da legno, e in particolare la pioppicoltura, rappresenta un caposaldo fondamentale della filiera legno in Italia, con un ammontare di quasi il 40% del legname da opera prodotto a scala nazionale. Peraltro, in Italia questa filiera risulta fortemente dipendente dall’estero per l’approvvigionamento di materia prima e semilavorati: più dei 2/3 del fabbisogno nazionale viene coperto dalle importazioni (wood insecurity). A fronte di ciò, si prospetta un margine significativo per la valorizzazione delle produzioni legnose nazionali. D’altro canto, gli imprenditori che investono in questo settore sono condizionati dai mutamenti ambientali e di mercato, che spingono in maniera sempre più decisa verso l’innovazione tecnologica e di processo volta, in particolare, a coniugare in modo efficiente la sostenibilità finanziaria delle produzioni con quella socio-ambientale.
