Senior scientist position

The Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research, Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institut WKI, in Braunschweig is looking for a senior scientist to lead newly established Research Center for Light, Environmentally-friendly Structures and the Department of Wood Structures.

You will actively support the development of a new research program focused on use of renewable materials in building construction (hybrid construction systems).  You will be responsible for establishment of the research program in the above area, managing application-focused research projects and development the relationships with the industry stakeholders.
PhD degree or equivalent in the area of Civil engineering (structures, modeling of structural systems, material science) is required.  Excellent knowledge of spoken and written German and communication skills are required.
Experience in the construction or construction materials industry is viewed as an important asset.  This is a leadership position and the candidate is expected to build and lead a team of professionals and develop and maintain an active industry-oriented applied research program.  It is therefore expected that the candidate will have managerial qualities along with his/her own research area.  Close collaboration with the TU Braunschweig faculty is envisioned.
Salary will commensurate with the qualifications and will be determined based on the German public service salary scale. The initial appointment is for two years, with excellent opportunity for extension. Disabled persons will be given preference if equally qualified.
