Post-Doctoral Position – Root Growth Phenotyping
Segnalato da: Francesco Loreto
A post-doctoral research position is available to assist with research supported by a grant from the European Watbio project: Development of improved perennial non-food biomass and bioproduct crops for water stressed environments (FP7; http://cordis.europa.eu/fetch?CALLER=EN_NEWS&ACTION=D&RCN=35358).
Description
The research unit “Forest Ecology and Ecophysiology” from INRA (National Institute for Agronomy Research, http://www.international.inra.fr/) implements multi-scale research programs aiming at investigating short and long-term effects of environmental constraints, especially water shortage, on tree function and growth. This research covers a broad range of experimental approaches: from gene expression to forest ecosystems functioning, including integrative biology at the tree scale and diversity analysis. Within this Unit, our team focuses on poplar root growth and its response to water deficit, with an integrative approach combining biophysics and transcriptomics.
The Root Growth team is seeking candidates for a post-doctoral position in the field of kinetics and kinematics of root growth. The research aims to investigate the complex interactions between the molecular pathways controlling cell and organ growth with those signalling drought stress.
The successful candidate will assist in the analysis of root growth diversity among poplar genotype/species. Specific duties will include:
- plant cultivation (hydroponics, in vitro, root observation box);
- imaging for root growth kinematics analysis, 3) modelling growth response, 4) collaboration with molecular biologists to analyze data for differential gene expression. He/She will be involved in science dissemination within the Watbio consortium and at international conferences.
Qualifications
Candidates with interests or experience in root physiology, biophysics, kinematics, phenotyping and/or timelapse photography are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in plant biology, biophysics, forestry, genetics, or a related field is required; experience and interests with laboratory experimentation is desirable.
Place of work & Employment Period
The position is available at Champenoux near Nancy, France, from June 2013; appointment is for one year with renewal subject to satisfactory performance.
Compensation
Salary will be from 23 000€ up to 40 000€ /year depending on experience.
Application Materials
Applicants should submit (1) a cover letter including a statement of research interests, (2) a curriculum vitae,
and (3) one to three letters of reference.
