Project Description
The BioClim Action of the Climate Change and Air Quality Unit analyses on the effectiveness of EU and global policies that potentially impact the cycling of carbon and nitrogen compounds between the atmosphere and the biosphere. We are looking for a researcher to perform assessments of trace gas fluxes from terrestrial ecosystems in Europe with a focus on agricultural sources. In the context of the project, the objective is to:
Contribute to the improvement of models that comprehensively assess the turnover and losses of nitrogen and carbon in agricultural systems at the regional scale
Contribute to the development of meta-models with statistical methods by combining results of various models and field observations into a consistent and integrated modeling framework.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have a PhD in agricultural/environmental sciences, environmental statistics or related fields (or a University degree and 5 years of research experience after the university degree giving access to doctoral studies).
Excellent programming skills (e.g. C or GAMS) and experience with statistical packages (e.g. R) are required. Knowledge of models estimating GHG emissions from agriculture (e.g. CAPRI) is an advantage. Relevant knowledge on farm practices and/or soil microbiology for trace gas emissions is essential.
Good knowledge of spoken and written English is required. The knowledge of another community language would be an advantage.
Relevant publications and presentations should be highlighted.
