ISOTOPE SUPPORT SCIENTIST
The British Geological Survey is one of the world’s leading and forward thinking geological science institutes with a focus on both public good science for government and geoscientific research to understand earth and environmental processes. A vacancy has arisen for a motivated Isotope Support Scientist our headquarters in Keyworth, Nottingham.
You will provide support in non-routine analysis of radiogenic isotopes, assisting with chemical purification, monitoring and maintaining ultra-low contamination levels, providing support in operating of thermal and plasma source mass spectrometers, and undertaking commercial analysis and other project work with minimal supervision.
You should be educated to BSc level in a science subject and will have experience in chemical procedures, analytical chemistry, autonomous and group working, and problem solving. Experience in isotope ratio mass spectrometry and operation of TIMS and ICPMS instrumentation would be an advantage. You must have a high level of attention to detail with respect to technically challenging extraction techniques and must be capable of manipulating small components and safely handling toxic reagents.
You will be part of a larger team, so must be able to work effectively with colleagues in a busy laboratory environment and possess good communication skills, both oral and written.
Depending on qualifications and experience, starting salary for the role will be £19,740 per annum to £23,390 per annum (pay award pending). This is advertised as an open ended appointment working 37 hours per week excluding lunch breaks. We will consider applications from those who require more flexible arrangements.
