Intensified forest harvesting to supply biomass for bioenergy production has
become an important activity for Canada’s forestry economy. Our
interdisciplinary research group is assessing the sustainability of
intensified biomass harvesting practices across boreal forests of Ontario.
Our aim is to determine how biomass harvests can be carried out to minimize
environmental impacts while maximizing renewable energy production.
We are recruiting five graduate students (both MSc and PhD positions) to
study the following components of the broader project.
Topics
Forest productivity and regeneration

We ask for highly motivated candidates with education backgrounds in
ecology, biology, forestry, and other related disciplines and experience
with field work. Candidates should have organizational talents and be team
players with excellent communication skills.
Candidates with a foundation of mathematics and statistics are strongly
encouraged to apply.
We offer full financial support (tuition fees and stipend) for the duration
of respective graduate programs. Both Lakehead University and University of
Toronto offer substantial cash supplements to NSERC PGS-M and PGS-D and OGS
award holders.
We expect students to begin their programs in January 2013, May 2013, or
September 2013.
Preliminary inquiries are encouraged by email with curriculum vitae and
university transcripts attached. Further information about graduate programs
may be found at:
