Il seminario, organizzato dal CREA nell’ambito delle attività finanziate dalla Rete Rurale Nazionale, ha lo scopo di presentare gli avanzamenti della ricerca in campo selvicolturale e tecnologico, le necessità delle imprese, le difficoltà e le opportunità operative nelle realtà territoriali castanicole, gli strumenti normativi a disposizione dei proprietari e dei gestori e l’importanza della rete rurale per lo sviluppo della filiera castanicola, attraverso un confronto tra i vari portatori di interesse. L’arboricoltura da legno, e in particolare la pioppicoltura, rappresenta un caposaldo fondamentale della filiera legno in Italia, con un ammontare di quasi il 40% del legname da opera prodotto a scala nazionale. Peraltro, in Italia questa filiera risulta fortemente dipendente dall’estero per l’approvvigionamento di materia prima e semilavorati: più dei 2/3 del fabbisogno nazionale viene coperto dalle importazioni (wood insecurity). A fronte di ciò, si prospetta un margine significativo per la valorizzazione delle produzioni legnose nazionali. D’altro canto, gli imprenditori che investono in questo settore sono condizionati dai mutamenti ambientali e di mercato, che spingono in maniera sempre più decisa verso l’innovazione tecnologica e di processo volta, in particolare, a coniugare in modo efficiente la sostenibilità finanziaria delle produzioni con quella socio-ambientale.
