PhD position in upscaling C-fluxes in Arctic areas using remote sensing/GIS

We are advertising three PhD positions in Denmark:
1. The PhD project aims to study the element cycling of nitrogen, including fixation, mineralization and denitrification rates in arctic landscapes. The work is likely to include field experiments along natural gradients and laboratory work based on complex microbial communities in mesocosm experiments.
2. This PhD project focuses on annual C budgets linked to existing snow fence experiments and year-round CO2 flux measurements (eddy/chamber measurements) at Disko, West Greenland. The study will include shoulder season dynamics and low temperature effects on the exchange of CO2 and CH4 in different landscape components and at different scales.
3. This PhD project aims to scale up observed C fluxes from plot to landscape across sites in Greenland using plot level measurements. This includes regional modelling (dynamic downscaling) combined with statistical methods (empirical downscaling) and spatial-temporal classification of vegetation, moisture, snow etc. using remote sensing and GIS.
